The “Whys”
Have you been in a hard circumstance where you asked the Lord, “Why”? I doubt if there have been many of us who haven’t. When we go through those questioning times, it’s important for us to respond the right way. We can choose to become bitter and resentful towards God and our circumstances or we can choose to let God use those circumstances for our good and His glory. We cannot always control our circumstances, but we are responsible for how we respond to those circumstances. We need to ask, “Am I going to judge God by circumstances I can’t understand or judge the circumstances in light of the character of God?” (Linda Dillow, Calm My Anxious Heart)
Perhaps we feel like we just cannot handle this trial any longer, that it is just too difficult to bear. We need to remember that God’s grace is sufficient! And our trials will not last one moment longer than is necessary for God to achieve His purposes in our lives. Perhaps we think that we shouldn’t have to suffer. The truth is that God uses the difficult times to sanctify us. He is much more concerned with our holiness than any temporal happiness we might experience if the trial was removed. In fact, when we go through trials, we come to know God in a way that we may not have had we not gone through the trial. We understand His presence, His grace, His goodness, His love more fully in our lives when we are in the midst of pain.
So when the “whys” come, and they are sure to, don’t try to escape from the trial, but look at Who you know God to be and let Him work out His purposes in your life.
And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen and establish you. 1 Peter 5:10
Treasures to Share
As my life revolves around children, you’ll notice that my “resources” revolve around children too! Perhaps you are familiar with The Two Ways to Live. We have found the storybook adaptation, Gumtree Gully, an excellent tool in helping children to understand the truths of the Gospel. Our children sit captivated as they listen to Dad recount the adventures of Rocky the Wallaby, Bluey the possum and their friends in Gumtree Gully.
