Exodus 8:10 “Be it according to thy word, that thou mayest know that there is none unto the LORD our God.”

In recent times I have been reading through A.W. Tozer’s book “The Knowledge of the Holy”, it has been a deeply moving read to say the least. In his introduction, Tozer confronts the church’s view of the church, he writes:

The low view of God entertained almost universally among Christians is the cause of a hundred lesser evils everywhere among us…

With our loss of the sense of majesty has come the further loss of religious awe and consciousness of the divine presence. We have lost our spirit of worship and our ability to withdraw inwardly to meet God in adoring silence. Modern Christianity is simply not producing the kind of Christian who can appreciate or experience the life in the Spirit. The words, ‘Be still, and know that I am God,’ mean next to nothing to the self-confident, bustling worshipper…

Wow! How true are these words! I find it so that when I do not have a right view of God, that there are many little sins which come and spoil my relationship with God-Like little foxes that ruin the vine. When I sin there are two things that I show I don’t understand: the exceeding wickedness of my flesh, and the Holiness of God. It may be that I so happened to think that I could overcome the flesh in my own strength or that I have purposefully believed the lie that God, more specifically His truth, is somewhat relative and inapplicable to my life… Lies!

Oh, to grasp the wonder of God! Oh, to see Him sitting on His throne, high and lifted up, to see His great holiness and be in awe, so that the only response I can give is to fall on my knee and cry “Woe is me! For I am undone, because I am a man of unclean lips and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts.”

Is it true that we and our churches have really lost the true sense of God? Have we diminished church to mere programs and methods verses fellowship and communion with God? Could it be said of us that we appreciate and experience the life in the Spirit? Or would we be one of the many thousands who have exchanged the truth of God for a lie, so to speak, and have bartered our God for idols which are dumb, deaf, and blind.

May we today get a fresh view of God from His Word. Let us be humble enough to allow God to show Himself as who He is in His word and not how we make Him out to be.

Psalms 86: 8-13 “Among the gods there is none like unto Thee, O Lord; neither are there any works like unto Thy works. All nations whom Thou hast made shall come and worship before Thee, O Lord, and shall glorify Thy name. For Thou art great and doest wondrous things: Thou alone art God. Teach me Thy way, O LORD; I will walk in Thy truth; unite my heart to fear Thy name. I will praise Thee, O Lord my God, with all my heart, and I will glorify Thy name for evermore. For great is Thy mercy toward me, and Thou hast delivered my soul from the lowest hell.”

    Thanks Apo.

AW Tozer was a prophet of him times, and he, though dead, still speaks. I look forward to more of your installments.

That is very true. He was a prophet of his times… I suppose the reason he still speaks is because his subject, God, is unchanging! Prasie God for that truth!
