Yeah, I do suspect it has to do with a desire to escape the party spirit that tends to accompany the modern Independent Baptist movement. It is a move away from the historical baptist brand to a more fresh and less tainted "biblicist" brand.

For what it's worth.

Hi Geoff, I think it has something to do with:-

-the conduct and reputation of some baptist churches

-the fact that the label is not so important these days particularly in a Australia which is largely unchurched

-some people feel that as doctrine stems from the Bible then let's call it a Bible Church not baptist church even though many Bible churches for all intents and purposes are baptistic so to speak as you point out

I can make these comments with some irony since I spent many years in a Bible church and am now pastoring in a baptist church:)

hope that helps

Hey folks no objection to "Bible" Church names...but can someone update me on what the objection is to BAPTIST Church names these days?
After all most of the Bible and I stress MOST of..maybe NOT all Bible Churches are in every way Baptistic in their Doctrines and pracises.
I know of some who say the name "BAPTIST" puts people off from attending a particular church but HELP! Please!
Lord Bless,
Geoff
