Is there Habib’s in Heaven?
I am writing this post from Sydney.
On Tuesday we are off to Habib’s, a middle eastern charcoal chicken haven in Bankstown for dinner.
Yes I will be jogging today and tomorrow morning as an ‘insurance policy’ for whatever I eat at Habib’s.
So what is so good about this little restaurant?
It is has its own inimitable garlic sauce plus home-made tabouli and green and red pickles that will cure you of any cold or flu within 12 hours.
I often went there for dinner during winter rather than spend money on doctors or anti-biotics. It sure beat waiting at the 24 hr Medical Centre.
We have both missed Habib’s since moving to Cairns, which basically has over-priced restaurants aimed at stinging the tourists of their spending money, not to mention the poor locals.
We long for Habib’s when we head south. It is a nostalgic, culinary experience.
MacDonald’s has its french fries, KFC has its special seasoning but Habib’s has its garlic sauce.
Tomorrow can’t come quick enough. Even so, come!
Maybe this post is making you think of your favourite place to eat.
Have you ever wondered if heaven will really be that good?
Won’t there be things, experiences, pleasures, or even foods or hobbies that we will miss up there for all eternity?
Will heaven be just a big disappointment?
Can God really do better than this present earth? I think we do entertain these thoughts from time to time.
Well consider these scriptures until their reality sinks in and you long for the treasures of heaven rather than the rags of this world.
You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore. Psalm 16:11
As for me, I will see Your face in righteousness; I shall be satisfied when I awake in Your likeness. Psalm 17:15
But now they desire a better, that is, a heavenly country. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them. Hebrews 11:16
Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells. 2 Peter 3:13
And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.” Then He who sat on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.” Revelation 21:4-5a

Wow. That was the subject of the message here at Trinity Baptist last night. Dan Thyng quoted Isaac Asimov as saying “I don’t believe in an afterlife, so I don’t have to spend my whole life fearing hell, or fearing heaven even more. For whatever the tortures of hell, I think the boredom of heaven would be even worse.”
It was wonderful to have our attention drawn to heaven by a man who has a four year old son there.
“Tomorrow can’t come quick enough. Even so, come!”
LOL!
That’s a thought that has often crossed my mind and I think this is the first time I’ve heard it addressed properly…so great post!! Thank you!! =)
Post Script: Habib’s was as good as we remember but I stopped eating earlier than I did a few years ago. it was nice walking out of there for a change without feeling like I was about to explode.
