For Members Only

Building for the FutureIt has been a blessing these last couple of Sunday afternoons to run a church membership class for believers interested in joining Trinity.

Our classes have, so far, focused on our core values, philosophy of ministry and then onto our constitution and doctrinal statement.

The classes have allowed for open and wide ranging discussion so that concerns are dealt with before believers are joined to the church in a formal way. Yes we do allow questions at Trinity.

Remember that in the book of Acts, baptised believers “were added to the church.” We don’t know exactly how they did it, but there was a formal recognition of mutual obligations between the believer and the local church.

These classes have reminded me of:

Over the next few weeks I want to talk about how God gifts believers to serve in the local church.

Are you a member of the church you attend? If it preaches God’s Word, is Biblically organised and that is where you serve, then why not?

Hmm, good post. I actually don’t know if I’m a member of my church. I don’t think we even have memberships…Interesting thoughts though…thanks for sharing! =D

‘glad that questions are allowed at Trinity! :) I agree that it’s good to formally recognise and articulate the “mutual obligations” among believers in church. Looking forward to more on the topic!
