I saw a touching portrait of personal courage and faith over the weekend. In their HSC (12) Year, a student is facing a protracted stay in hospital after a similar stay in hospital in the previous year. The first thing that struck me was their personal courage. Thinking back to my own Year 12 experience, the year was a blur of assessment tasks, exams, and memories in the last year of high school. To be removed from that experience while still preparing for exams and the future requires great personal courage. Courage to meet ongoing treatment and the lack of basic personal comforts that we all take for granted.

What is more important is that this courage is informed by personal faith. We asked about how we could pray. The answer was for someone else. This speaks to me of someone who has looked up to the silver lining in their own trials and beyond to the needs of others. Powerful.

Psalm 34 says “I sought the Lord, and he answered me, And delivered me from all my fears.” Written over 3,000 years ago, this statement from King David speaks to the foundational truth that I witnessed over the weekend. The Lord answers those who seek him. The Lord delivers us from all of our fears.

Courage–I’ve been pondering that virtue lately and praying for more of it in my own life. As you’ve pointed out, it’s an every day act of faith. Thanks for the encouragement.

I too have watched daily this pure courage and faith in the Saviour. The testimony from the previous visit has gone before and adds to the statement of God’s grace in a life lived through Christ. Continue to pray for healing and strength each day and that lives will be changed by the impact.
