Reading through Leviticus recently, I’ve noticed a phrase that comes up time after time: “I am the Lord.”

God is giving the Israelites instructions, the purpose for which is not always obvious. Then it’s as if he anticipates their question.

“But why?!”

Why do I have to do that? Why does it have to be like that? I don’t understand!

Then God answers with the simple statement “I am the Lord.” In other words, “Because I said so. And I am the Lord.

We live in a day when God has graciously revealed so much to us. Yet on the rare occasion when he has not chosen to reveal the whole picture, we scrunch up our faces and say “but why?!”

And we can be sure the answer remains the same.

“I am the Lord.”
